This is not the thread for you to attack or openly express hate for one religion. Or any religion, for that matter. No one has the "true" religion, and we are all equals. Basically, I made this thread to learn a bit more about my fellow forum-goers, and how they live their life. All I want is a post on what your religion is, and why you choose to live your life that way.

No religious jokes here. No saying anything offensive to another person, please. Keep it friendly.

I am, plain and outright, an Atheist. The reason being that the idea of a being controlling my actions and choices doesn't appeal to me. But that is just me.

Unless a religion believes in fate or destiny, my friend, no religion accepts that notion. Or at least none of the Judeo-Christian-Islamic belief systems do (though Calvinists in Christianity are an exception); Hindus and Buddhists do, but only to a point, because of the belief in constant reincarnation until the achievement of moksha/nirvana. In other words, no monotheistic belief system actively accepts predestination as a major tenet.

Personally, I would consider myself a Humanitarian Universalist. Norse gods? Ok in my book. Muhammad a prophet of God? Sure, why not. The Buddha achieved nirvana and gave humanity the Eightfold Path? Of course. Since all religions interest me, I find it hard to concretely pick a belief when I view all essentially equal to one another. Islam does interest me out of most of the others though, and I have thought about converting...my father might very well disown me for such an action, however. Rolling Eyes

I'm a Christian, though I don't adhere to a specific brand. To me, everyone was created by God differently and, therefore, relate to Him differently. God does influence how I live my life everyday, and I feel richer for it. I hope someday we Christians finally get it right and don't try to beat someone over the head about how they need to turn their life around or "God is gonna get them." God isn't out for any of us anymore than our parents are. I don't make judgements on people's lives, though I do believe people need to take responsibility for them, and I think everyone's relationship with God is different. I don't adhere to the belief that any religion is the right religion, but I'm respectful, don't engage in debates over it, and I value the teachings of other religions and I try to see how I can incorporate those teachings in Christianity to strengthen my relationship with God (I wish I had the discipline that Buddhism teaches). There, that's what I think and the only time you'll see me post on religion. Sleep
